Israel ordered the temporary shutdown of some natural gas fields after launching an attack on Iran in a joint operation with the US. The halt is a security measure, the Energy Ministry said in a statement, without specifying the fields affected. Energean Plc , the operator of the Karish deposit, said it had been instructed to suspend production. The move is a repeat of steps taken last year when Iran previously came under Israeli attack, and retaliated. Back in June, Israel shut its biggest gas field — Leviathan — as well as Karish, cutting off supplies to import-dependent Egypt. While Energean supplies gas to the domestic market only, Israel’s other two fields — Leviathan and Tamar — also export the fuel. Chevron Corp. , which operates both, declined to comment on any shutdowns on Saturday. The US-Israeli attacks, and Tehran’s retaliation against American military bases in several countries, raise the risk of a wider war in a region that’s key to global energy supplies. Leviathan is contracted to send about 4.5 billion cubic meters a year to Egypt, and Cairo’s dependence is set to rise following a $35 billion deal struck last year, which would see 130 billion cubic meters sent from 2026 to 2040. Read More: Egypt Locks In Gas-Import Dependency With New Israel Deal Egypt became a net gas importer in 2024 and has since bought up large volumes of liquefied natural gas, striking agreements for supplies out to 2028. Increased Israeli flows would mean Cairo may be able to import less LNG in the future. Leviathan’s gas is cheaper, yet the interruption of production — both last summer and now — highlights the vulnerability of that route. The disruption in June forced the Egyptian government to halt supplies to some industries, including fertilizer producers.

Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 17 Ultra at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on March 28. 2026. Xiaomi Xiaomi launched its latest flagship smartphones globally on Saturday as an unprecedented surge in memory chip prices threatens to dampen sales. The Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra represent the Chinese technology giant's top tier devices aimed at challenging the likes of Samsung and Apple in the high-end segment of the market. Xiaomi, which is the third-largest smartphone player globally, has maintained the prices of the devices versus last year's flagship , even amid the huge jump in memory prices that are critical for smartphones. The Xiaomi 17 starts at 999 euros ($1,179) while the Xiaomi 17 Ultra starts at 1,499 euros. In the first quarter of the year so far, memory prices have soared between 80% and 90%, Counterpoint Research said. This surge has been driven by a shortage of memory chips with supply being directed toward data centers for AI . Memory is an expensive component in a smartphone. Smartphone prices could rise 13% in 2026, according to a Gartner forecast from Februrary. IDC forecasts the smartphone market to decline 12.9% in 2026 as a result of the chip crunch. Analysts suggest companies selling more expensive phones will be more insulated and able to absorb the cost. The bulk of Xiaomi's volume comes from mid-range devices, a category that could take a hit to demand from any price rises. While its higher end devices will be unlikely to offset any losses. "This year will be even worse because Xiaomi does not have a very strong premium share which means that they cannot rely on the premium segment to offset low margins in other devices like Apple and Samsung can," Francisco Jeronimo, a vice president for data and analytics at IDC, told CNBC. In November, Xiaomi management warned that the industry would likely have to raise smartphone prices in 2026. Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, said that Xiaomi will likely have to hike prices of their low-to-mid-tier d...

Getty Images I previously covered GigaCloud Technology Inc. ( GCT ) in November 2025, discussing why the stock had been downgraded to a Hold after the outsized rally post FQ3'25 earnings call, despite the robust FQ3'25 performance metrics, the promising FQ4'25 guidance, and the potentially accretive New Classic Home Furnishing acquisition. With the stock already trading well beyond its historical trends and an upgrade nearer to its peers unlikely, I had believed that the stock had pulled forward much of its intermediate-term upside potential, with the overbought technical indicators and short interest ratio triggering a reduced margin of safety. In this article, I shall discuss why I am upgrading the GCT stock as a Buy upon a slight dip, as the vertically integrated marketplace company proves my bearish thesis wrong by delivering robust sales expansion in the EU at a time of softer demand in the US. This is while reporting a notably healthier balance sheet and an excellent shareholder return, thanks to the robust free cash flow generation, with it underscoring their attractively valued, profitable growth investment thesis. GCT Proves Its Resilient Marketplace Platform GCT 1Y Stock Price ( TradingView ) Since my last Hold rating, GCT has mostly traded sideways after enjoying the prior market rotation in late November 2025 and losing much of those gains in February 2026, before the bulls drive the stock's rather extreme rally by +33% post FQ4'25 earnings call. Much of the tailwinds may be attributed to their ability to shift "more resources and focus to Europe in light of softness in the U.S. market," with it directly driving their Germany revenues (before distribution to the EU) to $322.02M in FY2025 (+68% YoY) . With their Germany revenues now comprising 24.9% of their overall FY2025 revenues (+8.4 points YoY), it is unsurprising that their success in the EU has been able to well balance the softer demand in the US at revenues of $854.9M (-3% YoY) while driving the ...

In this article BRK.A Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNT Greg Abel speaks during the Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska on May 3, 2025. CNBC Berkshire Hathaway 's Greg Abel used his first annual shareholder letter as chief executive to reassure investors that the conglomerate's culture of financial conservatism and disciplined investing established under Warren Buffett will continue "into perpetuity." "I am honored by our Board's decision to appoint me CEO of Berkshire and humbled to succeed Warren as I write my first annual letter to you," Abel wrote in the missive to begin the company's annual report released Saturday along with Berkshire's quarterly earnings. "Warren is obviously a very hard act to follow." Abel, 63, signaled continuity rather than change as he takes the reins from the 95-year-old Buffett, who stepped down as CEO at the start of 2026 and remains chairman. The new CEO laid out a clear framework of foundational values for how he intends to keep running the conglomerate: to preserve its financial strength and maintain strict capital discipline. "We maintain a fortress-like balance sheet, ensuring Berkshire's foundation is never compromised," he wrote. "We preserve this financial strength by using debt sparingly and prudently. Our substantial liquidity enables us to meet our obligations even under the most adverse conditions and to respond swiftly when opportunities arise." Other values he highlighted included a decentralized management model and "reputation for integrity." Berkshire's cash pile stood at $373.3 billion at the end of 2025. Abel described the mountain of cash as strategic dry powder, which allows the company to act decisively when opportunities surface without jeopardizing resilience. Abel also used the letter to push back on any notion that the sizable cash position signified that Berkshire was retreating from investing. But Abel noted he will continue Berkshire's long-standing resistance to...
