A cross-party House of Lords special inquiry committee , which I chair, has been set up to examine national resilience. “Keep calm and carry on” doesn’t cut it: a plan for the 21st century needs to recognise the interconnectedness of threats: a cyber-attack can quickly escalate into power cuts, transport chaos, supply chain disruption and the collapse of public services. And this is not a case of “what if”: hybrid warfare emanating from Russia, China or Iran as cyber-attacks, disinformation or the sponsorship of proxy terrorist attacks is already commonplace. Investing.com -- Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) shares jumped 15% on Thursday morning as investors rushed to back the company as a top contender in the AI market. The stock cooled off a little later in the day, but was still up 9%.

Suja Life Inc. shares fell 14% in its trading debut on Thursday, after the initial public offering for the maker of organic cold-pressed juices and other nutritional beverages raised $186.7 million. The company’s shares opened at $18 on Thursday in New York, below the IPO price of $21 apiece. The trading gives the company a market value of $695 million, based on the outstanding shares in its filings. The Oceanside, California-based company’s IPO of 8.89 million shares priced at the low end of the $21 to $24 range. Suja Life restructured the IPO to consist solely of new shares, people familiar with the matter have said . The company had planned to sell 8.69 million shares in the offering and Paine Schwartz Partners, a private equity firm focused on the food industry, had offered 200,719 shares, its filings show. The juice maker had a net loss of $23.3 million on revenue of $326.6 million for its fiscal year ended December 2025, compared with a net loss of $20.8 million on revenue of $258.9 million a year earlier, according to the filings. The company estimates it turned a profit with net income of $6.2 million to $7.4 million in the first quarter of 2026 on revenue of $103.8 million to $107.1 million, compared with $87.4 million in the year ago period, based on preliminary unaudited numbers. Suja Life owns a portfolio of brands including Suja Organic, Vive Organic and Slice Soda. The company’s products are made with organic, non-GMO and plant-based ingredients, featuring a suite of dietary supplements, wellness shots and multi-day juice cleanses, according to its website . Retail partners include Whole Foods Market , Target Corp. and Walmart Inc. The IPO comes as rising interest in health and wellness has prompted food and beverage makers to pivot their strategies. Taiwan has conducted its first torpedo launch from a domestically built submarine, marking a significant step in its effort to bolster naval defenses and secure key shipping routes amid rising tensions with China. The test is part of Taipei’s broader military modernization drive, as Beijing continues near-daily drills around the island to reinforce its territorial claims. China considers Taiwan part of its territory, a position the island’s government firmly rejects. The indigenous submarine program has become a cornerstone of Taiwan’s defense strategy. Despite its limited diplomatic ties, the project has incorporated technology and expertise from several countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. CSBC Corp., the shipbuilder leading the initiative, said Thursday that the submarine — named Narwhal — successfully completed its first torpedo test a day earlier. According to the company, the exercise validated key elements of the vessel’s combat system, including target detection and tracking, fire control, launch capability, and guidance of the torpedo. Earlier this year, in January, the Narwhal completed its initial submerged sea trials. Taiwan aims to field at least two of these locally produced submarines by 2027, with later versions potentially outfitted with missile systems.
