Adam Jeffery | CNBC SpaceX shares soared on Friday as trading commenced on the Nasdaq, driving the rocket company's valuation above $2 trillion. The Elon Musk-led space company's stock traded 17% higher in midday trading. "This was a successful launch no doubt about it," said Jay Woods, chief market strategist from Freedom Capital Markets. "The public demand is there so that's a good thing, but now we'll wait to see if it can hold that open price or was it an euphoric retail crowd driving it." SpaceX opened at $150 per share, marking a roughly 11% gain over its $135 IPO price. But that number was off the $175 level initially shown in indications of interest to trading desks. "You have to give it a full trading day, which will be next week," Woods said. "The initial thoughts on the trading desks were that it could get up to $200." Friday's debut officially crowns Musk as the first trillionaire on record and is expected to mint thousands of new millionaires. But shares of Musk-led Tesla dropped more than 2% in intraday trading. Shares of space industry stocks tumbled in the wake of SpaceX's debut with investors shifting focus to the IPO. Redwire and RocketLab tumbled more than 13% and 12%, respectively, in Friday's session. SpaceX's debut is expected to kick off a wave of high-profile IPOs. Anthropic and OpenAI both confidentially filed prospectuses with regulators in recent weeks. This is breaking news. Kevin Lamarque | Reuters Elon Musk just became the world's first trillionaire. With SpaceX opening on the Nasdaq at $150 a share Friday, his stake in the company is worth more than $766 billion. Combined with his Tesla stake, which is worth $280 billion, Musk's net worth from both companies as of Friday is roughly $1.05 trillion. Musk's coronation as the first person in history to be worth $1 trillion is likely to add fuel to the debate over wealth inequality and the rise in power and wealth of America's richest tech founders. Along with creating the world's first trillionaire, the SpaceX IPO also minted thousands of new millionaires and several new billionaires among the employees and executives who own stock. That’s way too long for the Brazilian people,” remembers the former defender in the new Netflix documentary USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory. Having suffered the ignominy of a first-ever defeat in qualifying that prompted the manager, Carlos Alberto Parreira, to offer to step down the fabled Romário and Bebeto strike partnership inspired the Seleção to win a fourth World Cup the last time the tournament was held on American soil. Some 32 years on, Brazil supporters will be hoping history is about to repeat itself for Carlo Ancelotti’s side as they prepare for the most awkward of opening matches against Morocco , who became the first African country to reach the last four, in 2022. The World Cup’s most successful nation has only made it past the quarter-final stage once since Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo sealed a fifth title in 2002 – and everyone remembers what has happened since then. Neymar is the only surviving squad member from the 7-1 semi-final thrashing against Germany in 2014 – aka the Mineiraço – albeit he was forced to watch the nightmare unfold from the sidelines after being injured in the previous round against Colombia. The market’s narrative on Friday was pretty simple: the debut of Elon Musk’s rocket and artificial-intelligence company SpaceX. SpaceX debut impacted other space stocks during the trading session. Investors see the satellite maker as a proxy for SpaceX because it reached a deal last year to sell Elon Musk’s company spectrum, in return for about 2% of SpaceX stock.

Shares of SpaceX, which raised $75 billion at a $1.765 trillion valuation, opened at $150, above the initial public offering price of $135. Options will trade on exchanges including Cboe Global Markets, the largest options exchange operator in the US, and Nasdaq Inc, which today listed the rocket company in the largest IPO, spokespeople confirmed. There will likely be high demand for the derivatives, which give investors the chance to speculate on the future moves in the stock or insure against a drop. A surge in options volume could drive further demand to trade shares as traders hedge derivatives positions. Other options exchanges, including those owned by Intercontinental Exchange Inc.’s NYSE and Miami International Holdings Inc., are also expected to list early next week.

It did not report a profit. If all you need to decide whether or not to invest in a company is a valuation based on past financial metrics , I invite you to stop reading this article here. SpaceX is a richly valued company, and I genuinely believe investors that want to buy cheap companies should look into something like the Altria Group, Inc. ( MO ), a tobacco manufacturer with an excellent track record in returning value to shareholders and consistently trading at reasonable valuations. This article is for risk-tolerant investors open to the idea that markets are forward looking, and that alpha can sometimes be generated by holding exceptional companies with exceptional long term vision. The Monopolist Of Space: SpaceX Currently Handles 90% Of Space Payload In this article, I will examine in depth all figures related to SpaceX, both past and future. If there is one main key metric that readers should have in mind when it comes to investing in SpaceX, it is the fact that, since 2023 , ~90% of everything that goes into space is handled by SpaceX. In other words, SpaceX is today a de facto monopolist of space payload. This is a direct result of SpaceX having proven that reusable rockets work. The “ Falcon 9 ” is SpaceX’s key to its monopoly. It took SpaceX roughly 6 years to develop this rocket from first tests to commercial operations. Today, SpaceX charges an average of ~$2,200 per kg to send payload to space with its Falcon rockets. Reportedly, it costs the company less than $1000 to do so, while the exact price charged to customers per Kg varies depending on the exact rocket, as outlined in the table below. Rocket Type Average Cost per kg Dedicated Lau...

Former FTX Chief Executive Sam Bankman-Fried, who faces fraud charges over the collapse of the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange, walks outside the Manhattan federal court in New York City, U.S. March 30, 2023. Amanda Perobelli | Reuters A federal appeals court has upheld the conviction of cryptocurrency entrepreneur and FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, finding that the 2023 trial that led to his 25-year prison sentence was not unfair. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said Friday the government's evidence against the once high-profile player in the cryptocurrency industry was "conservatively stated, robust." A jury found that Bankman-Fried defrauded customers and investors of billions of dollars while he operated FTX, once the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange. The appeals court said the evidence proved that Bankman-Fried reassured FTX customers while also transferring billions of dollars for his own use and falsifying business records to conceal transactions. "While he was publicly reassuring customers, investors, and regulators that FTX customer funds were safe, he was simultaneously using FTX as his own personal piggy bank, spending customer funds on real estate, political contributions, and investments," the appeals court wrote. The 2nd Circuit, which heard oral arguments in November 2025, rejected the defense's argument that his trial was unfair because of a series of rulings by the judge that limited the evidence he could present. Judge Barrington D. Parker wrote the three-judge panel's opinion. Bankman-Fried, 34, was convicted of fraud and conspiracy in 2023 after a meteoric rise and then dramatic fall in the cryptocurrency universe, where his company once advertised during the Super Bowl. Bankman-Fried testified before Congress and enjoyed celebrity endorsements from stars like quarterback Tom Brady, basketball point guard Stephen Curry and comedian Larry David. FTX collapsed in November 2022, leaving customers, investors and l...
