Nigeria’s massive Dangote refinery is boosting purchases of the country’s crude, helping to stem waning demand for grades from West Africa in light of uncertainty over the resumption of oil shipments from the Middle East. Dangote’s ramp-up in buying has boosted the price of Nigerian crude grades compared with those from Angola. The two countries make up the backbone of West Africa’s oil market, but have seen premiums for their physical crude grades take different directions as the Iran war drags on. Nigeria’s Bonga, Escravos and Bonny Light crude for July loading are being offered at premiums of about $5.50 to $7 per barrel above the Dated Brent benchmark, according to traders specializing in the deals. That’s as much as $2 per barrel stronger than deals for June barrels, the people said. Dangote took in more than 16 million barrels of Nigerian oil last month, according to tanker-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg. That equates to 526,000 barrels a day, or the lion’s share of the plant’s 700,000 barrel a day capacity. Prices for the supplies would be far lower without the refinery’s buying power to clear up the market, the people said. Nigeria typically trades about 50 million barrels of crude per month. Angola, meanwhile, has had to contend with a pullback from its biggest buyer China. The Asian nation’s purchases of overseas oil slumped to the lowest in more than eight years last month as the Iran war caused global prices to soar and Beijing held off on scrambling for barrels, customs data showed. Last week, state-run Sonangol offered Angolan Dalia crude at a $1.80 a barrel discount to Dated Brent, down from an offer of $3.50 above the benchmark last month for a June shipment, and far below a peak premium of $10.60 per barrel paid in mid-April. China’s crude imports in 2026 are expected to drop by about 16% from a year earlier due to factors including weak product demand and elevated inventories, according to GL Consulting. President is first in US history to be impeached twice, over abuse of power and inciting an insurrection Donald Trump is pressing Congress to erase one of the darkest chapters of his political career, urging Republicans to pass a resolution that would symbolically nullify the two impeachments he suffered during his first term in office. The effort, first reported by the Wall Street Journal and confirmed by a White House official, would allow Trump to claim a symbolic victory on a key grievance from his first term. But experts say it would have little legal significance, since the constitution provides no procedure for undoing an impeachment. Continue reading...

georgeclerk ORIC Pharmaceuticals ( ORIC ) traded higher on Friday after Stifel resumed its coverage with a Buy recommendation, citing a compelling risk-reward setup ahead of potentially positive readthrough from a late-stage trial run by Pfizer ( PFE ). Its bullish view came as ORIC plans to begin a late-stage trial in June/July for its lead asset, rinzimetostat, which is designed to inhibit the protein polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2) in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Analyst Laura Prendergast argued that a late-stage trial readout expected in mid-H2 2026 from Pfizer ( PFE ) for its PRC2 inhibitor mevrometostat for the same indication could be the next big catalyst for ORIC. "While pharma binary readthroughs into smid-cap biotech names are typically tricky to position around, we believe risk/reward skews favorably here as ORIC is headed into this binary,” she added, issuing a price target of $14. ORIC’s high short interest and its cash on hand, which represents roughly 50% of its market capitalization, are other reasons underpinning Prendergast’s bullish view. “We believe MEVPRO-1 has a high probability of success and that a clinically meaningful outcome provides strong readthrough into ORIC’s opportunity for rinzimetostat in mCRPC,” the analyst added. HABesen/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Macy’s ( M ) shares continue to grind higher and have set another 52-week high on Friday, putting the stock on track to close in the green for a fourth straight week, an impressive accomplishment for a company that just 2 ½ years ago was being stalked by short sellers betting on another department store demise. Under the helm of a new CEO and with an ambitious agenda to return the dying conglomerate to its former glory, Macy’s ( M ) launched a “Bold New Chapter,” culling hundreds of underperforming stores, upgrading its stale merchandise to a greater luxury assortment, and isolating 200 high-performing stores for a major makeover. On the operations side, Macy’s ( M ) beefed up its staffing to compete with high-end retailers and modernized its supply chain to boost profitability. Within 2 years, the initiative turned Macy’s ( M ) years of steep sales declines into four consecutive quarters of comparable store sales, while profitability remains intact despite a loss of revenue from a dramatic reduction in its footprint. The performance has attracted the attention of investors, most notably Berkshire Hathaway, which dipped its toes back into the department store sector with a $55M investment. Since its May 18 purchase, Berkshire’s investment has already produced a 40% return. In the company's most recent quarter, Macy's ( M ) delivered its best quarter in four years and raised its guidance for comparable store sales on the performance of Bloomingdale's and the expectation that investments in Reimagine 200 locations and luxury nameplates will support long-term, top-line growth. While Macy’s ( M ) turnaround is in its early stages and the company still faces challenges from tariffs, macroeconomic dynamics, and competition from larger and more nimble online retailers, management has so far proven that there is still room in the consumer wallet for a smaller, more focused department store. Kuwait Joins "Dark-Mode" Tanker Traffic Through Hormuz By Tsvetana Paraskova of OilPrice.com Kuwait appears to have joined a growing bunch of Middle Eastern oil and gas producers that have moved to ship energy cargoes in dark mode through the Strait of Hormuz. The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier Gas Umm Al Rowaisat, which is owned by the national Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, has passed through the Strait in recent days, then transferred the cargo onto another ship which is currently en route to an Indian port, vessel-tracking data compiled by Bloomberg showed on Thursday. The Gas Umm Al Rowaisat loaded LPG in May in the Gulf, and then switched off its AIS positioning, before reappearing close to the Indian coast this weekend, according to the data. This is the latest instance of a tanker going dark as it moves through the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE, Iraq, and other Gulf producers have increased shipments of oil, LNG, and LPG on tankers in dark mode in recent weeks. Since the war began on February 28, tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has collapsed by 90% to 95% compared to pre-war levels, leaving the market about 13 million barrels per day (bpd) short of crude and fuel supply that was previously freely flowing to buyers. Some oil cargoes continue to trickle through the critical chokepoint, but under increasingly opaque operating conditions , complicating the tracking of oil and gas flows and obscuring the visibility of how much energy supply actually reaches buyers these days. More vessels are leaving the region after passing the Strait of Hormuz in a dark mode with transponders switched off, and those entering the Persian Gulf to load cargoes are increasingly doing the same. The dark-mode tactics, once the feature of Iran-linked vessels aiming to skirt sanctions, are now the norm for the majority of commercial traffic at the Strait of Hormuz, energy flow-tracking firms say. Anti-vaccine Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posted a long, enraged social media response to a New York Times article reporting that health department insiders think Kennedy is disengaged from the work of his sprawling agency. His response, however, seems to back the Times' claim. The report, published Sunday, June 7, relied on accounts from a dozen people who have had direct contact with Kennedy during his time as health secretary. Collectively, the sources indicate that Kennedy has little interest in the details of the health department's work and little direct interaction with career staff. Kennedy misses critical, regularly scheduled meetings with agency leaders, is sometimes "checked out" in the meetings he attends, and has been out of the loop on key decisions, such as the firing of Tracy Beth Høeg, a political appointee elevated to top drug regulator at the Food and Drug Administration. In his stead, Kennedy often refers people to his protective, longtime assistant, Stefanie Spear, who colleagues say has slowed department operations and fueled some significant leadership departures. On Wednesday night, Kennedy responded to the report with an 871-word diatribe on social media against the reporter, veteran journalist Sheryl Gay Stolberg, and the Times. His key argument was that much of the story could be refuted by a look at his jam-packed public calendar. Read full article Comments
