Christopher Moswitzer/iStock via Getty Images Summary - Focus on the Long Term Red Rock Resorts ( RRR ) reported 1Q26 earnings, which showed a decline in adjusted EBITDA and EBITDA margins due to temporary disruptions from property renovations. Renovations and property refresh are necessary in order to capture the next phase of EBITDA growth, as the company has a strong history of being able to grow earnings post-renovations. I rate the stock as a BUY and would focus on the company's long term growth prospects as opposed to short-term earnings fluctuations. Company Background - Leading Operator for Las Vegas Locals Red Rock Resorts is the largest gaming operator in Las Vegas outside the Las Vegas Strip. The company operates eighteen gaming outlets, which include seven major resorts within the Las Vegas area. Major resorts include Durango, Green Valley Ranch (GVR), and Red Rock Casino. RRR's primary customer base is Las Vegas locals. RRR benefits a growing local population base and a near-monopoly status for the locals market, as building casinos outside the Strip is highly regulated by the state of Nevada. Outside the Las Vegas area, RRR is developing a tribal casino in Central California called the North Fork Mono and Casino Resort that is slated to open in late 2026. Plenty of New Property Upgrades Coming Starting in January 2026, Durango's North property underwent renovation for a new casino floor, new F&B (food and beverage), and new entertainment outlets (movie theater and bowling alley), which are expected to be completed by August 2027. Around 250k square feet is expected to be added in the Durango North Expansion at a cost of $385m . Similarly, GVR recently completed renovations of its West Tower hotel rooms (early 2026) with East Tower renovations ongoing, which will include room and hotel lobby refurbishment. East Tower renovation completion is expected by the end of September . 1Q26 EBITDA Downside Due to Renovation Disruptions RRR reported 1Q26 revenue o...

The Booker winner’s epic tale of gay love and loneliness in the Hebrides charts an uneasy homecoming against a backdrop of repression There’s a common greeting in the Outer Hebrides: the lineage-establishing “Who do you belong to?” By the time this question is posed to 22-year-old gay Harris islander John-Calum Macleod, or Cal, in Douglas Stuart’s new novel, there is a sense that Cal is his father John’s beyond the ordinary claims of blood – the latter’s sway containing undercurrents of domineering ownership. The book opens with the two conducting a strange ritual over the phone, performed regularly ever since Cal moved to Edinburgh to study textiles: John, a precentor, reads to Cal in Gaelic from the New Testament and has him sing back “with the full power of his belief”. The verse John recites – which prefigures the novel’s themes of repression and self-denial – urges the faithful to guide the errant and to stay vigilant against temptation. After receiving Cal’s assent, John orders him to return home, ostensibly because Cal’s maternal grandmother, Ella, is sick. Though John lives with Ella in her croft house, she is his ex-wife’s mother and thus not his responsibility. Continue reading...

The top-paying accounts often come with strings attached, which could mean your money is not working as hard as you thought. That’s important because there is a lot of cash sitting in fixed-rate savings accounts that are about to reach the end of their term. The total amount in accounts maturing between April and June is £90bn, according to the savings app Spring – and that money will need to find a new home. Continue reading...

From B&Bs and cabins to fincas and family hotels, these rural boltholes make ideal bases for exploring the region’s mountains, trails and historic towns and villages For centuries, outsiders have been lured to the radiant hills and valleys of Andalucía, not least the Moors of north Africa who left such an impact on the land and culture. More recently, an influx of northern European aficionados has fostered a string of seductive, small-scale guesthouses to join some idiosyncratic Spanish-owned properties. These are idyllic, tranquil settings in which to de-stress and recharge, hike, ride, cycle, cook, swim or simply stargaze – the rural skies here are blissfully free of light pollution. Nor are cultural highlights ever far away, whether in Granada, Córdoba or Seville. Continue reading...

He insists there is no vacancy, and that he will fight on in No 10 , seeking a second five-year term and a decade in the job. However, the various contenders to replace him have been organising for some time. Many others may consider throwing their hats into the ring if the contest opened up – from the home secretary, Shabana Mahmood, and the education secretary, Bridget Phillipson, to the foreign secretary, Yvette Cooper, and the armed forces minister, Al Carns. But here are Starmer’s main threats: Continue reading...

Consumer confidence in the UK has dipped over the last three months at the fastest rate since June 2022, when inflation in the UK was soaring as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the spike in commodity prices. Is The Socialist-Islamist Alliance Finally Over? Via Remix News, Khalid Al-Hail is a defector from the Qatari ruling establishment, the president of the Qatar National Democratic Party, and the country ’ s most prominent opposition spokesman. Now living in exile in the United Kingdom, he is a successful international businessman and the leading advocate for democratic reform in Qatar, known for exposing the regime ’ s state-backed influence operations and media manipulation abroad. I can’t believe how petty this sounds, but I really think western socialists are frightened that the fall of the Ayatollahs will split their vote base. Why on earth else would people whose hearts bled for Palestine be back out in the streets supporting a regime which has matched the death toll of Gaza in just a few months? The clue is in the prevailing ideology of the Western intelligentsia. The signs have been visible for years. In 2022, a socialist political network within the European Union became embroiled in the so called ‘Qatargate’ scandal, involving cash bribes to close down debate about Qatar’s Human Rights abuses. As Qatar’s democratic opposition in political exile, I was encouraged by a recent campaign to call the European Union’s attention to this and other abuses of Qatar’s governance in the West. Billboards decried the Al Jazeera Propaganda network, the human rights violations of Qatar’s indentured foreign workforce and Qatar’s constant support for proscribed terrorist organisations including the Taliban, Hamas and Al Qaeda – all of which has been going on for decades. This is a message to the West and to my European friends! The Al Thanis, Qatar's ruling family, are funding terrorism, subverting and corrupting the West, promoting Islamist propaganda, and committing human right abuses. Help me free my beautiful country of these terrorists! 🇶🇦 pic.twitter.com/T2hF78zrsA — خالد الهيل KHALID AL-HAIL (@Khalidalhail) May 8, 2026 But the synergy between borderless, European social...
