naphtalina/iStock via Getty Images Wall Street ended Monday markedly in the red as renewed uncertainty gripped markets following President Donald Trump’s recent tariff announcement. What's more, AI disruption fears continued to linger as software stocks dropped. The S&P 500 ( SP500 ) closed out the session with a -1% drop, the Dow ( DJI ) tumbled -1.7%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite ( COMP:IND ) -1.1%. From a sector vantage point, six of the S&P 500’s 11 segments closed in positive trading territory, as consumer staples ended on top. Going the other way, financials struggled the most. Treasury yields were lower across the curve. The 2-year yield ( US2Y ) slipped 1 basis point to 3.68%. The 10-year yield ( US10Y ) drifted down 6 bps to 4.03%, while the 30-year yield ( US30Y ) eased to 4.70%, falling 2 basis points. Elsewhere, crypto prices were also under pressure , with bitcoin ( BTC-USD ) sliding to below $65K on the back of outsized outflows from spot exchange-traded funds tracking the token. Economic data released Monday showed the Chicago Fed National Activity Index moving into positive territory in January, while December factory orders declined 0.7% M/M, as expected. In addition, the Dallas Fed Manufacturing Index peeked into positive territory in February. Trump on Saturday said that he will increase his newly announced global tariff level to 15% from 10% even after the Supreme Court struck down most of the tariffs he imposed last year. Earlier on Monday, Trump vowed to slap much higher tariffs on countries that “play games” with existing U.S. trade agreements. "The tariffs seemed to be a windfall for the U.S. Treasury, but that is at risk now, and the bond market could push rates higher in the coming weeks," said Seeking Alpha analyst Hawkinvest . "This could negatively impact the stock market and the housing sector. If Europe decides to retaliate forcefully rather than play a waiting game, the real damage could come in the form of a digital service ta...
