The move comes as global ad spend surpasses $1T annually, and industry estimates suggest roughly 40% of that spend is lost to inefficiency, primarily driven by decisions made too late in the planning cycle.

Tilray Brands (NASDAQ: TLRY) is focused on expanding its reach. The marijuana company has now branched out to include CBD products and alcohol, and has started to call itself "a global lifestyle and consumer packaged goods company." It's not a bad idea, given the headwinds in the marijuana space, but there are material risks to consider here. The first big problem with Tilray Brands isn't actually specific to the company. It is a problem that the entire marijuana sector faces. Wall Street had huge expectations for marijuana sales as more and more localities legalized the use of the drug. Marijuana sales did rise, but competition in the newly developing industry was fierce, so profitability hasn't been a hallmark of the industry. Image source: Getty Images. Continue reading

Khosrork/iStock Editorial via Getty Images As an investor, I love investing in companies in which I am also a customer. Some core holdings in my portfolio, including Netflix, Inc. ( NFLX ), Meta Platforms, Inc. ( META ), Airbnb, Inc. ( ABNB ), and Uber Technologies, Inc. ( UBER ), are good examples for this. That said, there are times that I have been forced to distance myself from a company as an investor despite being a fan of its products. Being objective matters. Lucid Group, Inc. ( LCID ) is one such company. When Lucid opened its first showroom in Dubai in mid-2024, I visited the showroom and was quite impressed with the Lucid Air. A test drive had me in awe. However, I decided to stay on the sidelines as an investor as I was wary of Lucid's scalability challenges. Even when the Lucid Gravity was launched, I did not let its top-notch technology and world-class design distract me from the fundamental challenges faced by Lucid. Lucid stock is down almost 70% since my first bearish article. Last Friday, TechCrunch reported that Lucid is slashing its workforce by 12%. This is expected to be a part of the company's efforts to improve the bottom line. After digesting the reasons behind the layoffs, 2025 production and delivery numbers, and the company's strategic pivot to address some of its growth challenges, I have some hope for a recovery in the long term. That said, the absence of a quantifiable short-term catalyst has convinced me to maintain my bearish stance. Understanding The Layoff Decision Soon after, TechCrunch first reported Lucid's layoffs last Friday. Business Insider published the full memo CEO Marc Winterhoff sent to employees confirming this decision. After confirming the 12% reduction in the headcount, which excludes hourly production employees in manufacturing, logistics, and quality departments, CEO Winterhoff went on to explain the rationale behind this decision. We are streamlining our organization so we can operate with greater efficiency and ...

US stocks traded lower on Monday as President Donald Trump responded to the Supreme Court’s ruling against his sweeping tariffs by imposing a new, across-the-board 15% levy on US imports, sowing fresh confusion around global trade. Shares of Nvidia Corp. were a bright spot, advancing before Wednesday’s earnings report. The S&P 500 Index was down 0.385% at 9:52 a.m. in New York, with losses in technology stocks offsetting gains in energy and health care. Consumer discretionary and industrials sectors were in the red. The Nasdaq 100 Index was down 0.609% . The tariff situation has trigged “mass confusion,” Brian Reynolds , chief market strategist at Reynolds Strategy, wrote in a note Monday. Nonetheless, he expects “tariff rates will be moving lower from the levels that investors feared” almost a year ago, boosting profits this year, particularly for hard-hit small firms. That “could be a modest positive for the economy and equity prices,” he said. Nvidia rose 1.6% as Aletheia Capital raised the stock to a buy, saying it’s too cheap to ignore before earnings. Shares have been drifting sideways for months and are in the bottom half of performers this year for the S&P 500. They were also the most under-owned large-cap tech stock at the end of the fourth quarter. Tech stocks in general were modestly weaker as OpenAI was said to have told investors it’s planning to spend about $600 billion on infrastructure by 2030 after previously saying it was committed to spending more than $1.4 trillion. Energy stocks advanced. Oil prices rose as investors continued to assess the potential for US-led conflict with Iran.
